St Bernard’s – Essendon

BRIEF

St Bernard’s College Essendon and smith+tracey Architects were looking to create a ‘one-of-a-kind’ covered space on one of their outdoor basketball court areas.  The intention was to use waterproof PVC fabric to open up the design possibilities while still maintaining 100% waterproof coverage and 100% UV block.

OUTCOME

Greenline provided four unique options for consideration, and the selected design incorporates many complex 3D structural features such as angled posts, canted rafters, catenary fabric edges (with rainwater collection) and curved braces – there are no right-angled connections in the structure!  The final outcome is an amazing ‘floating’ roof effect and being full view of passing traffic on Buckley Street has caused many comments with such a unique design!
